Build It and They Will Come.
At the beginning, I shared my vision for the property, hoping others would join me on this journey. But no one showed interest, and some even doubted that I had the determination to see it through. I understood their skepticism—after all, I had little more than a few garden tools.
Yet, I firmly believe that if something is within God's will, He will grant the desires of the heart. I continually pray that my vision aligns with His, and with that faith, I knew that even with nothing more than a pair of scissors, I could accomplish the task ahead.
I wanted to document my early trips so that one day I could look back and remember all that God had provided, reflecting on how far this journey had taken me.
I discussed how I paused after my brush mower was stolen. I believe God used this idle time to present a different perspective on the dream for The Story.
I have a friend, Sara, who I shared bold visions with. On this trip I discussed being bold enough to invite her favorite musician Slow Magic to do a concert there at The Story within 3 years.
I was able to do one of my favorite things. I showed friends Francois, Alec and my son Justin around the property.
We cleared a path across the front part of the property. Enjoyed the company and the teamwork!
I visited with my friend Jay who was home visiting his family. He is knowledgeable about nature, so he treated me to a master class, discussing the various types of trees on the property.
We discovered a deer path, that cleared better than I could have done. I prayed for assistance all the time but didn’t expect God to answer it that way.
I tried to mockup a fire pit. I showed off my lack of carpentry skills. Ha-ha! Since this recording I have removed the paver bricks. I had enabled someone to used them to break out a window in a failed break into the pole barn.
This July 3rd visited with my son Justin was 93 degrees hot. I wanted to mark the paths which I was creating. I used branches as edging. I talked about an idea I had about asking friends to adopt a spot, like you see on the roadside. I mentioned the desire to make a botanical garden.
It was also the first time I opened the barn in nearly 15 years.
During this trip on October 16, I reflected on the fact that it marked the day before the 22nd anniversary of my mother's passing. I rarely came home around that time because of the emotions it brings.
I cleaned near the ditch leading into the property. I have trouble seeing it and fear one trip I might accidentally drive off the road. I was wearing my orange hoodie and joked about maybe being mistaken for the chain gang, the prison group that used to clear roadside.
I talked about my botched patio project and how I was going to repurpose the bricks to make an imperfect fire pit.
First mentioned the joy of being a Grandpa.
October 23 was one of the few back-to-back weekends I’ve visited. I was determined to make progress on The Story. I wasn’t feeling well but showed grit. I showed an attempt to create a burn pile. I also had created a recycle pile and was surprised how quickly it broke down. I joked about needing to limit the pile, afraid that the local residents might mistaken it for a new dumpsite.
October 12 took day off work to hang out with my close friend Mark and his older brother James Jr. aka Brother. I discuss the relationship I have with Mark, that we are competitive and will work ourselves crazy be admitting that we're ready to quiet.
It was during the quarantine Covid period, so I commented how easy it was to recruit friends to visit with me out in the open. It wouldn't be us if we didn't humorously banter back and forth.
July 28 during the Covid days, I visited with my son Justin. It was first time I used my new tool, the Worx Jawsaw. Didn't get to drive to back part of the property due to a heavy rain fall the day before. I comment on the ditch being filled with worder (This is for my friend Lindsay who teases me on how I pronounce 'water').
Mentioned my plans for the East side of the property to fill the entry way with flowers.
October 25th went out to the farm alone. Somedays I get a little spoked going by myself. Usually after well-meaning family and friends remind me of the dangers going by myself. It was a good day to clear paths in the front.
October 17, talked about how 21 years ago I received that called that forever changed me. Dad called tell me Mom and just passed. I mentioned hearing about the best way to get past being sad on that day is to replace a bad memory with a good one. So, I invited a close college friend Mitzi to come with me. Later we went for a Raspberry milk shake. I joked about how we had to clean up the mess my friend Mark made with cutting down trees and not neatly stacking. Tornado Mark left quite a destruction.
Describe kicking off adopt a space program. Mitzi Marie and Nathan came by for a visit and dropped off some flowers. I have been trying to find ways to involve friends that want to support me. Plan is to make a plaque to identify who donated and a chance to share their story, which is the primary goal of The Story
The main road in front of the property is State Road 62. It is the main connector from Louisville to Hanover and Madison. I would like the front to pop with flowers and the entry way serve as the gateway to beautiful Hanover and historical Madison.
Was dismayed that the weatherman report was off and it was very swamping. My friend Ray gave me some advice about making the property more visible from the road. Appreciated a different perspective with me thinking it would be better to make hidden so nobody would know about it. But his point was nobody would want to hang around if it is seen from the road. Thus, providing better protection.
Anticipated Mitzi and Marie bringing flowers the next weekend.
Nov 13 visit from friend Jay. Funny outtake of him pretending to be taken away by an evil spirit. I discuss about being afraid to go in the barn. Glance of the inside of the barn. It definitely needs to be cleaned up. Talk about the destruction of the farmer, how he removed the water spigots and didn't mark where they go back.
Hot June 90 degree day with my son Justin. He describes the work he did in helping me. I lament about having to do heavy mower with just a standard mower. Plan for the day when I can have a toll package on the van and bring down the riding mower. Little pat on the back about showing much grit.
Justin using my primary tool, the Honda lawn mower. That is one tough mower that I abuse and treat like a brush mower.
